This site contains 7 different ‘big book’ stories which can be displayed on your IWB.  Each one has a different Early Years learning focus.   These focus include:

• animals that live in Costa Rica
• names of animals that live in the Australian tropical rain forest
• common initial sound or phoneme in each sentence. Sounds featured include s,c,m,t,b,h and g.
• simple counting (with interactive roll over buttons)

Storybird is full of Big Books that you can use on your interactive whiteboard.  All of the books are free because they are created by their readers.  You could even have a go at creating your own class big books and sharing them with each other.  Good fun!

2Simple is baed in  Australia founded by ex-teachers and IT professionals. They create interactive resources for early years and primary pupils.  They have won many prestigious awards, the latest being the BETT 2009 ICT Company of the Year. They have also won the BETT 2008 award for Best Creative Tools (2Paint a Picture), BETT 2007 award for Best Early Years Software (Simple City) and BETT 2006 award for Best Primary Software (2Create a Story). They have 20 Australian specific programs which are all available on a 30 day trial.

This is a great website which focuses mainly on English and Literacy. I’ve been a member for years. It has loads of brilliant lesson ideas for everyday teaching and now has it’s own section of “whizzythings” which are specifically designed to help you create resources for you IWB. You can use some of the content for free but it is well worth getting a subscription either as a single user or as a school. All of the resources are created for teachers by teachers.

Teachit Primary is a new off-srpring of Teachit.co.uk . Founded by a teacher in the UK this site is steadily growing as a place for teachers to share all sorts of resources including their “whizzy things” as the site calls them. Membership is required to access the resources. Free membership is limiting but valuable. Schools can pay for access to more areas of the site.
