The Geometer’s Sketchpad

Tagged In: Maths, Numeracy, Primary | Posted on July 14th, 2011 | Comments Off

This software can be downloaded for free.  Obviously, the free version is a little more locked down than the paid version but it’s well worth a look!

Sketchpad gives students a tangible, visual way to learn mathematics that increases their engagement, understanding, and achievement. And it’s not just for geometry. Use it for elementary and middle school math, algebra, precalculus, and calculus

Not the best looking site but it’s full of useful resources for:

  • Français
  • Deutsch
  • Español
  • Italiano
  • Latin
Activities include match-up, quizes and Vocab games.  It covers primary right up to senior Secondary (A level in the UK Year 12 in Aus)

It also has a nice link to the “accents” Pagewhich gives you the shortcuts for adding your accents and a link to Task Magic: “an easy-to-use authoring tool for creating non-web-based interactive exercises for use in schools.”

Very Useful :)

AR sights Made it to my Mobile!

Tagged In: Evernote, iPad, iPhone, Twitter | Posted on February 28th, 2012 | Be the first to comment...

Those who read this blog regularly will have noticed that I love exploring Augmented Reality (AR). Those who work with me know that, at every opportunity I get, I’ll find away to use some in my lectures and workshops. That’s why I was really excited this morning when I received an email from In globe Technologies – the people behind the original AR Sights the platform I explored in my very first post on this fabulous tool. They impressed me back then in 2010 and, two years later have me all excited again because they’ve gone mobile! Only 2 weeks ago I had to load google sketchup to get AR sights to work during my prezi on HASS Teaching in the 21st Century and now, my students can wave their phones or iPads at the markers and have a go themselves :)

I just love the way I can choose an AR projection straight from my mobile device too. I can choose from objects, animals, buildings, cars, space and STAR WARS (amongst others)  That’s sooooo much quicker than it used to be! My other favourite features include the ability to save my AR image to Evernote, Ibooks ot the USB disk app I have on my iphone.
Great work Inglobe Technologies!  Thanks for the heads up!  Now to see how I can integrate this into my workshops ……
