Comparing Smart, Promethean and Easiteach's Software
I’ve been asked today whether or not I have a post in which I compare the various features of the major players in Interactive Whiteboard Software. A place which contains links to all the various software downloads. Unfortunately, up until right now, the answer to that was “no”. Creating a table of comparison is a big job as the software we’re talking about is very complex and has lots of subtle differences.
When choosing the software, of course, in most cases you’re going to have to consider whether or not you want to be tied down to the hardware that has to come with it. If you want to use Activ Inspire it can be difficult to get a license to do so without purchasing a product from the Promethean menu to run it on. Similarly, with SMART’s Notebook the licensing agreement actually states that it should be run only on their hardware (although in some state agreements have be made to contrary).
I’ll have a go at making a basic features comparison table for quick reference. Of course, all the software in question achieves the features listed in different ways and so if you’re looking for usability the best way to see whether you like the user interface is to run a trial of the software on your own machine and have a go!
Here are the links you need to download a trial from the big boys of IWBs:
Easiteach Next Generation: (The link here is for the Australian English version) This trial is actually the full version so once it’s downloaded, you can input the key you already have and make it run indefinitely.
Download a 30 day trial of Easiteach and see for yourself how easy it is to create and deliver motivational and engaging lessons using your interactive whiteboard, projector or slate. All you need to do is fill out the simple form below.
Currently only available for PC.
With Promethean you will get to use the software for 60 days before you have to switch to the “personal edition” which is a cut down version available for free… for use with/on Promethean products. Licensing information is available here under the licensing tab
Follow the steps below to download and activate SMART Notebook software.
- Obtain a product key to activate SMART Notebook software.
- Download SMART Notebook software, either by clicking the Download button below or the link in the e-mail you received from SMART when you registered for a product key.
- During the installation process, enter the product key you received from SMART.
NOTE: If you don’t obtain a product key, you can use SMART Notebook software for 30 days.
I’ll get to work on a useful comparison chart this week and post it as soon as I’m done. I’ll try and make it as comprehensive as I can but if you’d like to suggest any particular function that you’re curious about then please feel free to use the comments to make a request. 🙂
