Hi guys,

This post is aimed at all those who i’ve been connecting with on Twitter (and other social networks) over the last couple of years.  I’m hoping you can help me :)

On Thursday the 25th of this month (next Thurs) I will be doing a workshop with a group of lovely primary pre-service teachers about becoming a networked educator.  Part of the workshop will involve getting them on to twitter and helping them to begin to establish their professional learning network. The other part, will be about digital footprints and their importance in the current climate.  We’ll be exploring how keeping a blog with evidence of your learning and teaching in it is valuable as a tool for reflection and to show future employers what you’re made of.  We’ll be reflecting on why it’s important to take control of this footprint and how you can do that - Twitter being one of the tools we’ll grab!

How can you help?

Well, if you’re around (or have some spare time to dedicate) between 1pm and 3pm (Adelaide time – or in your time zone) on that day I would love it if you could make a special effort to say hello to these wonderful future teachers.  . We’re using the hashtag #educ3625.  I am also going to see if they can use hashtags like #edtechau #engchat etc. to ask questions about things that they have been exploring over the past few weeks.   These include numeracy and ICT as a General Capability, Social and ethical behaviours on line, cyber safety, lesson planning using the Australian Curriculum, Blooms taxonomy and TPACK.  If any of you would be willing to talk to them or share resources etc – to show them the power of the PLN during that time I would be eternally grateful.  I will re-tweet as many as I can to my network and if you can RT them to yours there’s a chance that they’ll grow their network quickly.

Just to add to the mix, we’re actually being filmed as I teach this session so that the uni can explore how we’re using social media and mobile learning to help our students to connect with you, the wonderful community of global educators.  I’d love for there to be heaps of people involved if we can :)

I will be running the same exercise on Friday at the same time with a second group of trainee teachers.  If you’re available then we’d love to work with you :)

What do I do?

  • Be on Twitter between 1pm- 3pm on Thursday 25th / Friday 26th of October
  • Follow #educ3625
  • Reply to some of their questions if you can
  • Share something with #educ3625 that you think will be useful to them

Thank you, in advance, to everyone who can make it to this special “tweet-up” event :)  I’m sure we’ll have  a great time and learn a lot for each other :)
